Packaged Transformer Substations KTPOS are an important element of modern railway infrastructure. They provide reliable power supply to critically important systems. These substations are single-transformer packaged transformer substations for outdoor installation, designed to receive three-phase alternating current at 50 Hz with a voltage of 6 or 10 kV, convert it to 0.23 kV, and supply consumers in networks with an isolated neutral. The main purpose of KTPOS is to power electric heating networks for railway switches, and they are designed for operation in temperate climates.

Structural Features

KTPOS are designed with the needs of rapid deployment and reliable operation in the challenging conditions inherent to railway infrastructure in mind. Their design includes a number of key elements that ensure durability and ease of maintenance.

  • The simple design ensures quick installation (KTPOS are installed on two T-shaped reinforced concrete supports) and dismantling.
  • Modern hermetically sealed transformers (TMG series) are used, increasing reliability and reducing maintenance needs.
  • The bodies of the high-voltage (UHN) and low-voltage (LVSG) cabinets are made of 2 mm thick steel sheet, hot-dip galvanized, ensuring high corrosion resistance.
  • Substations are equipped with an overhead high-voltage input and 0.23 kV cable lines.
  • Connection to overhead power lines 6(10) kV is made using a high-voltage disconnector type RLND-10/400 U1, installed on the nearest support.
  • High-voltage fuse links are located inside the UHN cabinet for additional protection.
  • Electrical and mechanical interlocking is provided to ensure the safety of maintenance personnel.
  • Automatic circuit breakers are installed on the outgoing lines to protect consumers.
  • The design includes a place and connection for recording electricity consumption.

Advantages of Using KTPOS Substations

The use of KTPOS packaged transformer substations for powering railway switch heating systems provides a number of significant advantages that affect the efficiency, reliability, and safety of railway infrastructure operation.

  • Speed of installation and dismantling: The simple design and adaptation for installation on standard reinforced concrete supports ensure quick commissioning and mobility when relocation is required.
  • High reliability: The use of hermetically sealed TMG series transformers and durable galvanized steel cabinet bodies increases resistance to external influences and ensures long-term uninterrupted operation.
  • Operational safety: The presence of electrical and mechanical interlocking minimizes risks for maintenance personnel during work.
  • Equipment and network protection: Automatic circuit breakers on outgoing lines and fuses on the high-voltage side provide effective protection against overloads and short circuits.
  • Flexible configuration: The possibility of changing individual technical parameters (winding connection scheme, number of feeders) at the customer’s request allows adapting the substation to specific object needs.
  • Convenient accounting: The provided electricity consumption accounting system simplifies control and cost planning.
  • Effective solution for switch heating: The specialization of the substation for powering these specific systems guarantees that its characteristics meet the specific requirements.

Areas of Application

KTPOPS packaged transformer substations are designed to meet the specific needs of certain infrastructure facilities and have a clearly defined purpose where their technical characteristics and structural features are most effective.

  • The main area of application for KTPOS is to provide power supply to electric heating networks for railway switches.
  • Designed for operation in temperate climates, which corresponds to a significant part of the territory of Ukraine and other countries.
  • Used at railway infrastructure facilities to ensure uninterrupted operation of switches during the cold season, preventing their icing.

Compliance with Standards

The production and operation of packaged transformer substations in Ukraine are strictly regulated by relevant state and industry standards. KTPOS, as an important element of electrical equipment, complies with these regulatory requirements to ensure safety and reliability.

  • KTPOS comply with the requirements of DSTU 3399-96 (GOST 14695-97) “Packaged transformer substations with a capacity from 25 to 2500 kVA for voltages up to 10 kV. General technical conditions”, which is the main standard for this type of equipment in Ukraine.
  • The design and characteristics of the substations take into account the safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and reliability requirements defined by the relevant national standards and regulatory documents applicable to electrical installations and electrical equipment.
  • Components used in KTPOS, such as transformers (TMG series), switching devices, and other elements, also comply with current Ukrainian standards.
