The company «Ukrelectroapparat» during its existence has managed to establish the production and sale of electrical equipment, as well as its supply to the CIS countries. These are not only different types of transformers (oil, dry-type, units for railways), but also transformer substations. A transformer substation can be of several types and with different technical properties. Read on to find out more.

Purpose

A complete transformer station receives, transforms (lowers or increases) and distributes electrical energy. Its capacity and voltage level depends on the configuration and layout of the electrical network. Power distribution is used in power supply systems to consumers in rural, suburban or urban environments.

Variety

There are three main types of complete transformer stations:

  • Mast-mounted (for overhead connection).
  • Pole-mounted (for mounting on supports).
  • Block-mounted (for outdoor installation).

Each of these units has its own technical data sheet, which specifies the rated power, the level of strength and other technical characteristics.

Classification

There are several classifications applied to transformer substations due to the variety of their features. Depending on how the substations convert the voltage, they can be step-down or step-up. The first type helps to convert the primary voltage of an electrical network into a secondary voltage, while the second type is used to be placed directly adjacent to the power plants. The second type of substation can be used to convert the voltage of generators to a higher voltage.

Depending on the location, transformer substations can be local or district transformer stations. According to the type of service, a distinction is made between those with and without a corridor.

A distinction is made according to the type of connection:

  • dead-end;
  • branch lines;
  • loop-through.

A separate line is used to supply power to a dead-end substation, while a feed-through substation is characterised by the inclusion of a trunk line in the feed-through (split) line.

Types of constructions

The substation structure consists of a metal or concrete box. The box is equipped with a special seating area for the installation work. All types of transformer stations have a similar design, which includes:

  • power transformer (dry-type, oil-filled);
  • high-voltage input device;
  • LV distribution gear;
  • High-voltage and low-voltage busducts.

Depending on the number of transformers used, substations can be one, two or three transformers.
