Packaged Transformer Substations (PTS) are a key element of modern power engineering, ensuring reliable and efficient electricity supply to various facilities. Among them, specialized solutions adapted to specific industry needs hold a special place. KTPZHO substations with capacities of 2.5, 4, and 10 kVA are a vivid example of such solutions, developed specifically for the needs of railway electrical networks. They play a critical role in ensuring the stable operation of infrastructure, which is vital for the functioning of railway transport.
Structural Features
KTPZHO substations are designed with the specific operational requirements of railway infrastructure in mind, which ensures their reliability and durability. The design provides optimal placement for all components, contributing to ease of installation, maintenance, and safe operation. Special attention is paid to protecting the equipment from external influences and vandalism.
- The OMZH transformer and low-voltage cabinet are installed on a special frame.
- For substations with capacities of 2.5 and 4 kVA, the frame is mounted on a power line pole.
- For 10 kVA substations, T-shaped supports are used.
- Connection to the contact network is carried out using a disconnector, which can be installed either on a contact network pole or on a separate freestanding pole.
- A high-voltage fuse and surge arrester are installed on the same frame as the transformer to protect the equipment.
- Outgoing lines can be equipped with automatic circuit breakers or “knife switch-fuse” blocks, as per customer request.

Advantages of Using KTPZHO Substations
The use of KTPZHO transformer substations offers a number of significant advantages, especially in railway operating conditions. These advantages lie in their specialized design, reliability, and adaptability, ensuring uninterrupted power supply and efficient infrastructure operation.
- Specialized solution: These substations are designed specifically for railway electrical networks, guaranteeing optimal functioning in these conditions.
- Reliability and resilience: Designed for outdoor installation and capable of operating in a wide temperature range from -40°C to +40°C, ensuring stable operation in various climatic conditions.
- Comprehensive power supply: They convert high voltage of 27.5 kV to the required 0.23 kV, supplying linear consumers of railway stations, sidings, and other facilities.
- Flexible configuration: The option to choose between automatic circuit breakers and “knife switch-fuse” blocks on the outgoing lines allows for adapting the substation to specific operational needs.
- Equipment protection: Built-in high-voltage fuse and surge arrester provide protection for the transformer and network from fault conditions.
- Space saving: The possibility of installation on power line poles or T-shaped supports directly near the railway contributes to efficient land use.
Areas of Application
KTPZHO substations are specifically designed and adapted to provide electricity to railway infrastructure facilities. Their design and technical characteristics allow them to effectively solve power supply tasks in conditions characteristic of railway networks.
- Railway stations: Providing electricity for lighting, signaling, heating, and other needs of station complexes.
- Sidings and stopping points: Supplying electricity for the functioning of equipment and premises in intermediate sections of railway tracks.
- Railway crossings: Powering control systems for barriers, traffic lights, and other crossing equipment.
- Linear-track premises: Supplying administrative, technical, and utility premises located along railway tracks.
- Linear consumers of railway electrical networks: Any facilities requiring 0.23 kV electricity directly from the 27.5 kV contact network.
Compliance with Standards
The quality and operational safety of transformer substations are priorities, especially for critical infrastructure facilities such as railway networks. KTPZHO substations are manufactured in compliance with national standards and technical specifications, which confirms their reliability and adherence to established requirements.
