TMGF type power transformers are reliable equipment for efficient electrical energy conversion. These oil-filled, step-down, three-phase, two-winding transformers feature a hermetically sealed design with a flange connection, with capacities ranging from 630 to 2500 kV·A and voltages up to 10 kV. They’re designed for a wide array of applications in energy systems, used for the conversion, distribution, and transmission of electrical energy to consumers in 50 Hz AC networks. These transformers are suitable for both indoor and outdoor transformer substations.
Structural Features
TMGF transformers boast several structural features that ensure their effective and reliable operation. Their design is carefully engineered for durability and ease of maintenance.
- The transformer tanks are rectangular with corrugated walls that compensate for temperature-induced oil expansion.
- The tank lid includes: a tap (plug) for adding oil, a float oil indicator for level monitoring, and a thermometer for measuring the temperature of the upper oil layers.
- At the bottom of the tank, you’ll find: a plug for draining oil sediment, a tap (plug) for taking a sample, and an earthing bolt.
- The active part comprises windings, a high-voltage tap changer, and a magnetic core.
- The magnetic core is crafted from high-quality electrical steel, cut on a “GEORG” line and stacked using the “Step-Lap” scheme.
- The HV and LV bushings are for outdoor installation, removable, feature porcelain pass-through insulators, and are located on the tank lid.
- For currents of 1000 A and above, a special contact clamp with a blade is attached to the upper part of the current-carrying rod for connecting a flat busbar.
- The hermetically sealed tank design prevents oil from contacting air, thereby eliminating oxidation.

Advantages of Using TMGF Transformers
The use of TMGF type transformers provides a number of significant advantages due to their design and technical characteristics. These benefits make them an efficient and reliable choice for many applications in the power industry.
- High Reliability and Durability: The hermetic tank design prevents oil contact with air, preventing its oxidation and moisture absorption. This significantly extends the service life of both the transformer and the oil, reducing the risk of internal damage.
- Minimal Maintenance: Due to their hermetic sealing and the absence of a conservator, TMGF transformers do not require frequent preventive inspections, oil sampling, or regeneration throughout their service life.
- Operational Economy: Reduced maintenance volumes and an extended oil service life lead to lower operating costs.
- Efficiency: The use of “Step-Lap” technology in the manufacturing of the magnetic core contributes to reduced no-load losses.
- Flexible Adjustment: The presence of a high-voltage tap changer allows for quick adjustment of the output voltage within ± 2 x 2.5% to optimize network parameters.
- Resistance to External Influences: The tank design with corrugated walls effectively compensates for changes in oil volume due to fluctuations in ambient temperature.
Areas of Application
TMGF transformers are widely used in various sectors of energy and industry where reliable and efficient electrical energy conversion is required. Their technical characteristics and design features make them suitable for use in conditions demanding high operational reliability.
- Transformer Substations: Designed for installation in both indoor and outdoor transformer substations.
